design area storage shelves
This shelving unit was designed around an armature of metal Ikea shelves. They were wrapped in thin wood planks. Panels of cork, felt, and an artist's canvas were used to cover the shelves' openings; in some areas, additional wood shelving was built within. The panels that cover the existing metal frame are adhered using magnets, allowing each face to detach to show the storage behind. Each shelf houses equipment required for creating and designing, such as a computer, 3D printer, sewing machine, and model-making tools. The monitor swings out from within a shelf cavity. This concept reduces visual clutter from the sightlines of the work area while providing additional working space and a calm and clean environment in which to create.
